The Mission Brief

So last night over dinner our group final met Sr Regina, our Liason for the project work and the mother superior (i.e. the boss-nun) at the convent. She gave us the low down on what we'd be doing for the next few week. Basically, there are 2 projects which we will split into teams of 3 for, and work on separately. Then, halfway through, the teams will swap places so that all volunteers get to experience both projects.

One of the project is working on a sort of drop in centre for street children. They come and go as they please, and If they should wish to try and get of the streets, there are facilities and accommodation available, as well as support to help them get off the streets and find a home.

The second project is in an education centre for kids living in very impoverished conditions in the favelas. The centre helps to train and educate them in skills and areas that can help improve their chances of finding work. As there is a strike on Monday meaning no buses are running, we will not start work until Tuesday.
